Edson (Eddie)'s Story

I was in the first graduating class from Bel Air in 1961. In July of 61, I married Jerry Mungle, we were divorced in January of 63. We were just to young. After that, I went to live with my sister in Corpus Christi, Texas and thats where I met my husband, Bernie(Bernard) Anderson. We moved back to El Paso for a couple of years. Our son B.A. (Bernard Allen) was born there in November of 1968. In July of 1969, we moved to San Antonio, where my husband's x-wife and children lived. He has 3 grils and a boy from that marriage. Crazy as it may seem, Joan (his X) and I have always gotten along great. Our children were raised together. It just made more sense, and it was much better for all the kids. B.A. has never thought of himsef as an only child. We have always been very active with what ever our kids were involved in, dance lessons, cheerleading, baseball, football and in 1976, BMX bike racing. BMX became a very important part of our lives. The boys were very good at it, so we traveled all over the country in our motorhome to National Events, and somewhere we found time to open two BMX tracks in San Antonio. The boys raced at ABA (The American Bicycle Association) sanctioned events, hoping to win, that coveted number one plate. By 1985 our boys had almost completley quit racing bikes. The ABA was floundering and sinking fast into bankruptcy. when, to my amazement, my husband bought the company! A...Expand for more
fter two years of reorganization, The ABA (American Bicycle Association) was on its way to becoming the largest BMX sanctioning body in the world. When we bought it, its offices were in Chandler, Arizona. We planed to move it to San Antonio, but it would have been such a major undertaking, it just never happened. My husband divided his time between San Antonio and Arizona. It is now in Gilbert, Az. Only a move of about 15 miles from where it started. In 1993 our son, B.A. and his fiance graduated from Southwest Texas State University. In March of 1994 they were married. After their honeymoon, they were off to Arizona to start thier new life and his job at ABA. We wanted him to learn the company from the bottom up. He already knew what the racing part was about, from his own experience. Today he runs the ABA. Bernie (my husband) is simi-retired, but he is still Chairman of the Board at ABA. He and B.A.make all the business decisions and talk on the phone every day. One of our major accomplishments, or I should say B.A.'s, is getting BMX into the Olympics in 2008 in China. We are very excited. B.A. and his father are going to China for the event. For the last five years, we have been free to travel somewhere other than, a bike race. We discovered crusing and love it. We have traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Jamaca, Brizel, Greece, Turkey, France, Switzerland, Italy, Luxenberg, Germany, and England.
